Fort Lauderdale Beach

“Play in the sand; splash in the water; get dirty; get wet. The beach is the only place my mom doesn’t get mad about me doing that stuff. Of course I love the beach!”

–Dixie Dykens (age 5)

Kick off your shoes and slip into a pair of sandals. We’re going to the beach! Yay! Just down a few blocks from Tara Hotel are Fort Lauderdale’s fabled beaches and fun-shine. Before you fly out your door, here are some basic insider tips and insights to make your beach day safe and everything you may have dreamed it could be.

Prepare a Little – Have More Fun!

Fort Lauderdale has as many shops as seashells that have everything you may need but you’ll want to lather up with a high SPF sunscreen before heading out into tropical rays, even in wintertime.

Prepare thoroughly and bring along cold refreshments, snacks, towels, extra clothing and maybe umbrellas, blankets or beach chairs. Wearing hats and sunglasses are always a good idea. Kids love beach balls, footballs, Frisbees and plastic beach toys like pails and shovels for sandcastles. Bring a toy. Something. A raft is a superb choice – your kids will have a blast and it’s a flotation device!

Keep track of your belongings, especially jewelry, which can easily get buried in the sand. It’s really best to leave watches, jewelry or electronics at home or in your Tara Hotel room safe before going to the beach. Don’t forget Ziploc bags for cell phones and iPads – they’ll help protect them from moisture, sand, and salt spray.

Safety First – FUN ALWAYS

There are lifeguards spaced throughout Fort Lauderdale Beach. Be sure to visit one before finding your picnic spot and read official postings about water and weather conditions.

Once you settle, it’s best to orient yourself so that you know where your stuff is, as you and your family may be wandering to the water or up and down the beach. Always watch your children, especially in or near the shore as currents can occasionally be stronger than they seem.

Sunburns are not the kind of souvenirs you want to be taking home with you, so don’t forget to reapply sunscreen often – especially after sweating or swimming.

Whether sunbathing, swimming, or walking the beach is your thing, you and your family are bound to have an unforgettable time if you prepare and look out for one another. What’s the main ingredient for inspiring family happiness at the beach? Take time not to rush! Frantic energies that normally keep modern households running can dampen moods on a beach day.

A family beach vacation is a mysterious process of unwinding and personal re-creation. And at North Beach Village, you’ll find that there are 10,000 opportunities to relax, laugh and strengthen family bonds!

“Don’t grow up too quickly, lest you forget how much you love the beach.”
